The Avett Brothers sat with ShockHound.com to discuss how their punk rock, skateboarding, country roots transformed them into the Indie Folk, Bluegrass sound.

Brent Oerther and myself had the chance to see The Bouncing Souls when they invaded The Alley in Sparks on Friday, July, 20th.  It was a hell of a show.  Thank you to Sarah Sigro at Big Hassle Publicity for the tickets.

Words by Brent:

I had the pleasure of being introduced to the Bouncing Souls in the late 90’s in my hometown of Louisville Kentucky and have been a fan of their original style ever since.  Their eruptive, punk-influenced, energy-filled music has brought them to the pinnacle of punk-rock music.  They’re now on their 25th year of touring and they haven’t lost any of the style that has kept loyal listeners coming back for more year after year.
With this tour, they are introducing their new album jointly released between Chunksaah and Rise Records.  “Comet” was recorded and mixed in a mere 12 days with well known Producer and Musician Bill Stevenson in his studio The Blasting Room. “Comet” is an assortment of passionate, profound punk rock expressions. “Coin Toss Girl”, a Bouncing Souls coined love song, touches on the “thrills and spills” of women in relationships and focuses on taking advantage of the moment when its there; which the band says is the overall focus of the album.

When the Bouncing Souls announced that they were stopping by The Alley in Sparks, NV I had to get there, not because it was going to bring me back to the good ole’ fashion punk rock days, but because I knew they were going to put on a killer show in a punk influenced venue.  Chapin and Jeremy, owners of The Alley, have really turned this place into a superior venue that breaths punk music.

The Bouncing Souls started with powerful originals and showed off their new ones to the slam dancing crowd.  When “Hopeless Romantic” thrashed out, I obviously had to jump my skinny ass in with the 200 lb plus head banging friends for a second or two,  and furiously threw up my two fuck you fingers when “East Coast Fuck You” broke out!  The new tunes were also accepted well.  Overall the show was hard hitting and everything you would expect from this New Jersey punk rock band.  Check their tour out if you can, you wont be let down!
get em up!
