This past Saturday, the First Annual Mardi Squaw Event, presented by Heckler Magazine & Sunset Promotions, invaded Squaw Valley's Olympic Lodge!

Legendary DJ J Boogie & DJ Matt Haze

Mardi Gras has generally been an overlooked event here in Lake Tahoe, so we thought it would be a good idea to round up some beads, and some of the best DJ's in the San Francisco and Lake Tahoe areas, and throw a massive party. During the Day, we took over the KT Base Bar in a big way. Bataleon Snowboards, Nixon, Technine, bigtruck Brand, and Heckler Magazine setup booth's and had face and mask painting for the kids, custom hats were being sewn, product giveaways, and DJ's MOM, DJ J Boogie, Matt Haze, and more, played sets, while girls walked around dancing with hula-hoops, and circus performers handed out beads while walking the crowd on stilts. The sun was shining, and it made for a great warm-up for the evenings main event.

The doors to the event opened at 7pm, but in true Tahoe fashion, people started rolling in in droves about an hour later. Zeb Early set the night off in the Bar One Live Stage, while IJV and Andrew Posada rocked the Silent Disco area in the main room. For those of you who weren't there, 'Silent Disco' are bluetooth enabled headphones that allow you to switch between two different DJ's spinning completely different sets, while allowing you to be the only one hearing which station you are on. A very strange concept on its face but once you dive in, there's no going back.

What's a party without ninjas?

Around 10pm the party was really pumping, with the 3 main rooms going off! Meanwhile, upstairs in the Plaza Bar, Nixon sponsored a VIP Lounge. Chalked full of local shreds and a few people who upgraded their tix in blind faith, you walked into the sprawling, recently remodeled bar, and were greeted with grab bags, courtesy of Sara Mehlaff & Brian Neri of Nixon NorCal. Free drinks flowed, while another DJ setup kept the crowd rocking.

Around 11pm, our main act, Planet Booty, hit the stage, and it was time to make the booties in Lake Tahoe sweat it out. Dylan, the lead singer of PB, hit the stage in a sequined jacket and shirt, but he didn't need his clothes to help set off their set. They rocked the house. For those of you not familiar with their music, hit their website, planetbooty.org, to learn more. We will definitely be bringing them back sometime this spring for our end of the shred season party!
