Five Questions with Fat Mike
Q: Have you guys played in South Lake in the past, if so do you remember where?
Mike: We played a bar here within the past ten years… and we played at Boreal. But playing South Lake is just unbelievable, like tonight was so cool. Cause seriously it’s probably the oldest crowd we play to. I’d say the average age is at least thirty, if not higher. And just being liked by your peers is the best, impressing kids isn’t that hard. Impressing fucking thirty-year-old snowboarders, thats hard.
Q: Do you have any new music on the way?
Mike: Ya we have a new record to come out this year. Even though I think people aren’t generally interested in older school punk bands and their new records but I think our records over the past three or four years or ten years are still pretty decent. Our last record I think is like our seventh or eighth best out of twelve. You know like I said its not our best record but it’s a good record still.
Its Coaster right?
Mike: Yeah it's Coaster! It’s a cool record.
Q: Are there any more crazy tours on the way like The Backstage Pass?
Mike: Sometime this year we’re gonna go to back to Columbia for our third try. Cause we went there two years ago and we in got a big riot, so we have to get a show in Columbia. So we want to do a show in Medellin and Bogota and one of them has to come through. We are also gunna do some more stuff playing in Thailand and Vietnam. Were not going to India, fuck India… My girlfriends hot.
Q: What are you listening to right now?
Mike: NOFX, no. What’s the new stuff we’re listening to fuck, we have been finding the old stuff, The Sounds from Sweden, Fang, (Soma, Mikes girlfriend) I force him to listen to indie rock but its not fair, she turned me onto the Pixies which is hilarious like a year and a half ago. Our favorite music is David Bowie and Tony Slys solo album which sounds weird but Tony Slys first solo album is like our record and Frank Turner.
Q: Do you have any plans of living up to the Rolling Stones of punk?
Mike: Kinda are but maybe cooler. Well I always look at Bad Religion, when Bad Religion calls it quits I think we got three more years cause they’re three years older than us. And neither one of our bands have a problem.
I just saw them play in San Fran this last year and they are still killing it.
Mike: Ya they’re still killing it. They’re like the ACDC of punk, we're maybe the Rolling Stones. Nah we're not cause because we have better songs than the Rolling Stones. But like tonight I don’t think anyone thought ahh they’re too old, they’re fucking past their prime. We might be past our prime but everyone had a good time and we're still doing what we've always done. (Soma) and you still have your hair, and we got some fucking good hairlines. I don’t think punk rock is like hair metal cause its not this cool thing its just good music played by drunk people and it lasts, it just does. Who would have thought it would have lasted, it does. Just like you said Bad Religion they’re amazing still. We do get to amazing but we also have uhh. Their solid you never know with us.
Cool thanks Mike.
Mike: No, Thanks for the interview HECKLER and Isac!
